Frequently asked questions
Everything you're wondering.
What we are
Bunker of Light 🕯️ is a Chabad-rooted Jewish family home where teens and young adults can experience Shabbos and Yom Tov, honest conversation, real community, and practical support toward a next step.
What we are not
Bunker is not a party house, an official local Chabad house, a clinical practice, a shelter, or a residential treatment program. We keep clear limits and connect people to licensed or specialized care when that is what the situation requires.
Our Policies
The ground rules that keep the Bunker safe, holy, and awesome for everyone.
✨ What makes the Bunker awesome
- 🕯️Shabbos & Yom Tov atmosphere: a warm, pressure-free space where you can come as you are — and keep at the level you're ready to keep at.
- 🍲Food + family feel: home-cooked meals, shared tables, and meaningful conversation.
- 💛Respect & belonging: a place where everyone feels included and safe, no matter where you're holding in life.
- 🌙Late-night meaning: stay up for deep convos that matter — without pressure, without judgment.
- 🛋️Comfortable flow: relax on the couch, join a group, or take your space — whatever helps you feel at home.
- 🤝Real friendships: meet people who care about you for who you are, not for what you're "supposed" to be.
- 🔋Recharge zone: a place to reset your soul, refill your energy, and go back out stronger.
- ⭐Open space for real convos: ask anything about Judaism — from "Do we really have free choice?" to "How do we know God exists?" No judgment, ever.
- 🎶Chill atmosphere: singing at the table or just good energy — no one's forced, everyone's welcome.
- 🐶Four friendly dogs: always ready to play and add to the vibe.
✅ How we keep it awesome
- 🚫No drugs, weed, or hard liquor. This is a safe, clean space for everyone, and we keep it that way.
- 🚭Fresh air only: if you smoke, please do it completely off-premises, away from the house.
- 🌙Late-night vibe: deep convos on the couch = yes. Party noise and screaming = not. By 1:00 AM, the house goes quiet so everyone (and the neighbors) can rest.
- 🕯️Shabbos & Yom Tov space: non-Shabbos/Yom Tov stuff stays private, so public areas keep their holy vibe.
- 🍲Show up for the family: be part of the meals, conversations, and the group energy — don't disappear all Shabbos.
- 💬Respectful flow: clean up after yourself, help out when you can, and keep shared spaces welcoming for everyone — that means no foul language or put-downs.
- 👥Separate gatherings: boys and girls never mix here. A boys' Shabbos = boys only. A girls' Shabbos = girls only. No boyfriends/girlfriends visiting, and no sharing beds — period.
- 🛏️Bedrooms = rest zones: use bedrooms for sleeping, not for hanging out in groups.
- 👶For minors: if you're under 18, you'll need parental approval to join.
