Someone by your side

Mental Health Support & Advocacy for Jewish Teens

The Bunker of Light is not a clinic — it's the steady ally that helps Jewish teens and young adults in Ocean County, NJ actually get to the right care, and stays close the whole way.

What advocacy means in practice

A struggling teen facing therapists, schools, insurance, or state systems alone usually gives up before the help arrives. Our role is to be the adult in the room: helping find the right licensed therapist, counselor, or behavioral-health program, sitting alongside at difficult meetings, following up so referrals don't die in a voicemail, and advocating for young people navigating systems by themselves.

When someone is in a mental-health crisis, we stay close and bring licensed professionals into the picture. We don't diagnose, treat, or counsel — we make sure the people qualified to do that are actually reached, and that the teen isn't alone in the meantime.

A community that takes the stigma out

Half of mental-health help is having somewhere to be okay while you get it. The Bunker's weekly Shabbos table, mentoring relationships, puppy therapy, and no-judgment culture give teens a normal, warm place to stand while the clinical work happens elsewhere. Belonging isn't therapy — but it's powerful medicine alongside it.

Working with providers across the area

Families come to us about the full range of what teens carry — anxiety, depression, school pressure, family conflict, isolation — and we help them find the right door, whether that's counseling, a behavioral-health program, or something else entirely. We partner with families, schools, rabbanim, and mental-health providers across Toms River, Lakewood, and greater Ocean and Monmouth County, and we make warm referrals rather than handing out phone numbers. In an immediate emergency, always call 911, or call/text 988 — the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline — first.

Frequently asked questions

Do you provide therapy or counseling?

No. We are not a licensed mental-health facility. We provide support, community, and advocacy — and we connect teens and families to licensed professionals for clinical care.

Can you help find a Jewish-community-sensitive therapist?

Yes — we help families find licensed providers who understand frum and Jewish community life, and we follow up to make sure the connection actually happens.

What if my teen refuses to see anyone?

That's common, and it's where the Bunker helps most — a teen who won't walk into an office will often keep coming to a Shabbos table, and trust built there opens doors later.

One message is enough to start.

Reach out for yourself, your child, a student, or a friend — quietly, warmly, and always free.
