Urgent Support for Jewish Teens & Young Adults
For a Jewish teen or young adult in Ocean County, NJ who needs help fast — a person to call, a safe place to land, and a bridge to professional care.
First: real emergencies
If someone is in immediate danger, call 911. If someone is in a mental-health crisis, call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) any time, day or night. The Bunker of Light is not a 24-hour emergency service, a hotline, or a licensed crisis facility — and nothing on this page replaces those.
What we can do quickly
Within what a family-run community home can honestly offer: a fast, human response when you reach out; crisis support that stays close and brings licensed mental-health professionals into the picture; when appropriate, an emergency bed for a few nights — enough to land, breathe, and plan; and referrals to the right services, made warmly and followed up on.
Many urgent calls come from parents, rabbeim, or friends rather than the teen themselves. That's fine. Tell us what's happening and we'll help figure out the next right step.
After the urgent moment
Stabilizing a bad week is the beginning, not the end. The same home offers ongoing mentoring, weekly Shabbos meals, community, and steady adults — so the kid who needed a safe bed on Tuesday has somewhere to belong on Friday night.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Bunker of Light a shelter?
No. We are not a licensed shelter or residential facility. When appropriate, we can offer a teen or young adult a safe bed for a few nights and help arrange what comes next.
Are you available 24 hours?
We are a family-run nonprofit, not a 24-hour service. We respond as fast as humanly possible — but for any immediate emergency, always call 911 or 988 first.
Who can reach out on someone's behalf?
Anyone — a parent, a friend, a rav, a teacher. If you're worried about a Jewish teen or young adult in Toms River, Lakewood, or anywhere nearby, contact us.
One message is enough to start.
Reach out for yourself, your child, a student, or a friend — quietly, warmly, and always free.
