Past 18, still welcome

Jewish Young Adult Support in Ocean County, NJ

Most programs end at 18. The struggles don't. The Bunker of Light is one of the few places in New Jersey built for Jewish young adults as much as for teens.

The gap after high school

A young adult who leaves yeshiva, mesivta, or high school without a plan can fall through every crack at once — no framework, no job, sometimes no stable place to sleep, and very few community programs that still consider them their problem. Much of our crowd on any given Shabbos is in exactly that stretch of life: eighteen to mid-twenties, figuring it out.

We built the Bunker for them on purpose. No age cutoff at the door, no program you have to enroll in — a table, a couch, people who notice when you don't show up.

Practical support, not just pep talks

Alongside Shabbos meals and community, we offer one-on-one mentoring, help with job searches and interviews, advocacy for young people navigating systems alone, referrals to licensed mental-health professionals, and limited short-term assistance — including, when appropriate, an emergency bed for a few nights while something more stable comes together.

When a situation calls for professional care, we stay close and help make the connection. We are not a treatment center or a residential facility, and we don't pretend to be — we're the people who make sure you actually get to the right door.

Serving young adults across the Shore area

Young adults come to us from Toms River, Lakewood, Jackson, Brick, Howell, Manchester, and across Ocean and Monmouth County. If you're further out and getting here is the obstacle, reach out anyway — we'll figure something out together.

Frequently asked questions

I'm in my twenties — am I too old for this?

No. Young adults are the heart of the Bunker. If you're a teen or young adult who needs a place, the place is yours.

Can you help me find work?

Yes — mentors help with job searches, applications, and interviews, and we lean on a wide community network to open doors.

What if I need somewhere to stay?

When appropriate, we can offer a safe bed for a few nights and help you plan the next step. We are not a shelter or residential program, so for longer-term housing we help connect you with the right services.

One message is enough to start.

Reach out for yourself, your child, a student, or a friend — quietly, warmly, and always free.
